Editorial Fellow

Jewish Review of Books is proud to be partnering with the Center for Jewish History to fund a new fellowship for criticism and public scholarship in 2026-2027. The editorial fellow will participate in the CJH’s Institute for Advanced Research fellows seminar in New York City as well as the editorial team of the Jewish Review of Books

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participation in CJH seminars, colloquia, symposia and other programs
  • A minimum of three days a week in-person at the CJH
  • Helping to plan and support JRB events at the CJH
  • Writing and editorial contributions to the magazine related to research done as a fellow, in collaboration with the editor and associate editor

Funding and Benefits

  • $50,000 stipend for the year
  • A carrel at the CJH Reading Room
  • Participation in CJH seminars and other events
  • Jewish holidays and other holidays observed by JRB

Requirements

  • Availability for a minimum of 3 days a week of in-person attendance at the CJH in New York City, September 2026-August 2027. Up to two days a week may be remote work days, to be coordinated with the JRB staff
  •  Attendance and participation in all JRB events at the CJH
  • Post-graduate degree holders and graduates with bachelor’s degrees will be considered, but in both cases, established experience in publishing, journalism, or literary criticism will be preferred.

Three pitches for potential pieces for the magazine, which may be related to your current research or projects already in progress. These pitches should be in different genres that the magazine publishes, such as:

  • Reviews
  • Readings (reconsiderations of classic works or key historical moments)
  • Lost and Found (interesting historical texts introduced and translated if necessary)
  • Substack posts

If you are currently working on a book project, describe how two or three parts of it could be published in another form in the magazine.
